The birth of the Fat Cats 10km race, dubbed “A run for the whole family”, took place on 13 October 2019. The race consists of two main timed distances, i.e., 5km and 10km. The race being centred around the inclusion of every family member from the young to the older member of the family also includes activities for the younger future athletes and hosts a Kitten Miler (1,6km) and a Nappy dash (250m) for toddlers.
The race take place on the first Sunday of October annually and starts and ends at the Mall of Africa, Waterfall City in Johannesburg. It attracts over 2 500 entrants, 250 volunteers, and 100 officials amongst different stakeholders.
Since the inaugural race in 2019, the race has enjoyed five (5) successful editions of this race, including and two virtual races in 2020 and 2021 following the global outbreak of Covid which resulted in worldwide lockdown and cancellation of mass participation sport events.
The continued success of our race is as a result of the various partnerships forged with various stakeholders and the generous support of corporate through sponsorships and endorsements. Through the race, we aim to also contribute to our communities and thus drive and promote various CSI initiatives under the Fat Cats CSI brand.
